Film review: Pride (2014 film)
The movie Pride is more than Pride itself, it's about the struggles for being part of a fight that no one supports. It's about going through an unknow place just for feel that you got something to do in it.
But before explaining all that, what is the movie about? The movie places in the british miners strike of 1984 due to the massive closeure of coal mines who affected thousands of miners that live near these areas, the story portayed here show us how a group of lesbians and gays decide to support the coal miners raising money for them creating an organization, the Lesbians and Gays Supports the Miners, by the end both side will learn from each other just for knowing what is to be oppresed by your belives.
So we go to the beggining of mi review. This point is what I most like about the film, the fact that It's more than the strike or the Pride. Neither the both sides be so sure in collaborating with the other, but by the end all share a same vision and broke these imaginary wall that divide them in the first place.
At the same time I think that the movie lose potential for doesn't give more screen to other characters like Dai or Cliff (althought maybe this character was created for narrative porpouse) or the strike itself they didn't show us the cruelty moments that the miners passed through the strike, they only mentions it.
Specialy the character of Dai Donovan, who is my favorite character, for the open minded that was and also for be the most commit with the strike.
Finally for my favorite scene I would choose the scene where they sing the bread and roses song in the community center. That scene was very emotive and give the feeling of brotherhood between gays and miners.
I strongly recommend this movie. Four stars out of five
